On September 19th, the opening ceremony of the Chinese training class was held in library C606. Wang Ling, Vice President of our university, Dai Lei, Vice Director of the Office of International Affairs, the Chinese language and culture teachers, and the first group of 15 Russian students attended the opening ceremony. Wang Ling made the opening remarks.
This Chinese class is the first Chinese class to international students at SWPU. 15 students are from three different universities in Russia. They are going to study here for one year.
Wang Ling said, Russia and china, are the biggest neighbor country to each other. Economic trade and cultural communication between us are very frequent. Russian music, ballet and literature enjoy high popularity in China. In Recent years, with the enlargement of cooperation, the cooperation among universities of two countries has been gradually increased. Southwest Petroleum University has signed cooperation agreements with many Russian universities. Sino-Russian “Mesopotamia” Chinese training class is held under the joint effort of the two countries and universities, and it is a rare opportunity. She hopes everybody in the class can cherish the time to learn Chinese language and Chinese culture at SWPU，and turn themselves into a messenger of cooperation between China and Russia.
Damir is a new student from Kazan Federal University, and gained the chance to study in SWPU. He said: “Chinese culture is broad and profound, I am very interested in Chinese culture and hope I can communicate with many students so that I can improve my Chinese. After the training, I will keep learning Chinese and be a translator in the future.”
Polina and Anna are also from Russia, they said they have been in China for a week. They feel the weather in China is very nice and they love it here. They also said that in Russia the people who can understand and speak Chinese are very popular, and if they learn Chinese well, they can get a better job back in Russia.
Besides the 15 language students, there are other international students who are from Kazakhstan and Pakistan.
According to the cooperation agreement between the universities, both sides provide free dorms and free tuition for the language students. Sichuan government set up special scholarship for Sino-Russian “Mesopotamia” Chinese training class, providing each student with 5,000 RMB per semester.
